Yeah! this blog is about a hero who has been treated as a zero these days....its about "The Great Wall of India". Yes! as u guessed its none other than our former captain of Team India Rahul Dravid... Rahul , known for his consistency , however in the last series, was consistent in getting low scores...he was thrown away (actually mentioned as rested) from the team in the 7th ODI against Australia in the recently completed Future Cup... it was not fare on the part of team management to drop such a player with high profile.... he was made as the 12th man for that game... Further more hurting is the comment by our team selector Vengsarkar who says
Rahul is a one-dimensional player. He is not suitable for ODIs.
He should remember the roles played by Rahul in ODIs. He can bat an opener, as a middle order batsman, also as a 5-6 down batsman and he has the additional qualification of being a keeper, and also a successful captain.
The significance is not in the semantics, but what it means for the future of Indian cricket: Dropped or rested, Rahul Dravid will not be playing (at least) the first two one-day matches against Pakistan. Whether this means he will never play one-day cricket again is the million dollar question. He should play!

yeah! definitely there is a need of youngsters to be picked up for building the team for future...but, still India cant completely build a team without the senior players...May be the selectors can follow rotation policy among the trio...and the opening slots should be given to the youngsters and the trio can bat the middle overs...n Rahul is the best in that part of the game... Though, India played with out our three great batsman Tendulkar, Dravid and Ganguly and was able to emerge as the T20 champions.... its quite difficult for the youngsters to manage in the longer versions of the game...proper mix of seniors and youngsters is the order of the day....Rahul is not a zero he is a real hero....

:)
ReplyDeleteI din read your blog fully, I saw the title and the image in it. Assumed what could be inside the content.
ReplyDeleteYes its fair! We are not still playing the elegant stroke play cricket. Its do or die. Aus make 300+ in 80% of the matches they play! Can India do the same! My view YES. Only if they play hard cricket. But D is not that kind of player.
Thats why dhoni said, "Play Hard or Go Home"
@Vijesh!
ReplyDeleteYeah! I do agree we need to play 'Do or Die' kind of cricket. You cant say RD is not suitable for that. If you look at the recently completed series against England, he played aggressive innings in the first four matches. Also, he has been adopting well to the batting line up since his comeback into ODIs in 1998. He has scored at S/R. > 100 when situation demands. So, its not like he is not fit for ODIs. He is not in form now. But, still he has lots to contribute. Among the trio, he is the most talented player.
