Though LED (Light Emitting Diode) light bulbs are not very popular in India for the home segment, many retailers are starting to carry bulbs built around this upcoming lighting technology. Manufacturers like Philips, GE have started to release their lighting products based on the LED. This is going to be widely accepted for the home segment soon.

What makes this LED light bulb so special?
- Extended life span of the bulb. Study says LED light bulb has an average lifespan of 1,00,000 hrs when compared to 10,000 hrs for Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) and 1,000 hrs of an Incandescent bulb.
- Less power consumption. LED light bulbs consume as less as 10% of what incandescent bulbs consume.
- Energy saving. Traditional incandescent light bulbs wastes upto 80% of its energy in the form of heat that they produce. LED lightbulbs on the other hand save that energy since heat emission is minimal.
