Intel announced its Wireless Display technology a.k.a WiDi Technology back in Jan 2010. With WiDi technology, one can transmit videos and images wirelessly from computer to High Definition Television or any other High Definition display devices. Before the existence of this technology, one should use the HDMI or RCA (Red, Green, White) jacks to connect the laptop to the external display devices. There are lots of obvious issues with the wired media for communication. WiDi Technology
- In WiDi technology, data is transferred over a WiFi network established between the laptop and the specially designed adapter box (Netgear TV WiFi video card).
- Intel based devices are built with the WiDi Technology. No need to have an external USB dongle. The device should have Core i3 or i5 processor.
- NetGear adapter box needs to be plugged onto the display device and this box will act as the receiver.
- Laptop and the adapter box can be paired up using the Intel WiDi’s software.
- Upon successful pairing, a WiFi network will be established between the laptop and the display device.
WiDi technology is currently available on few series of laptops from Sony and Toshiba. Intel is planning to use its WiDi technology on the mobile devices as well. More info can be found here.
