Chromoting - What is it?
Chromoting is a new feature to be part of the Google’s cloud OS “Chrome OS”. Google Chrome OS is expected to be launched later this year. But, Chrome OS has received a lot of criticisms from the day it was announced. One of the major criticisms was its inability to run most of the legacy apps of PC. Google has found an answer to this criticism by this new feature unofficially named as Chromoting. It helps in accessing all the legacy apps on Chrome OS. It is a remote desktop app from your cloud computer. Gary Kačmarčík, a Google engineer, confirmed the feature on Chromium’s Google groups.
How does it work?
Chromoting turns the Chrome browser into a remote desktop viewer. All the legacy applications running on your other computers can be accessed from Chrome OS using the remote desktop viewer. No information is available yet on the underlying technology used to view the remote desktop.
Will this feature take Chrome OS to a wider audience? Hopefully, yes.
