As the whole world is waiting for the Chrome OS from the Internet giant, Google is researching on different devices on which the OS can be ported to. Though it was originally announced to be made available only for netbooks, Chrome OS could eventually scale to any devices. As part of these experiments, they have built a concept Tablet. Initial explorations have maintained the same basic Chrome layout but with enlarged icons. Some possibilities they explore include:
- Keyboard interaction with the screen: anchored, split, attached to focus.
- Launchers as an overlay, providing touch or search as means to access web sites.
- Contextual actions triggered via dwell.
- Zooming UI for multiple tabs.
- Tabs presented along the side of the screen (see Side tabs)
- Creating multiple browsers on screen using a launcher.
Watch the concept video here. The million dollar question here is that: When will this Tablet become a reality? How much will it cost? Will it be able to win the war on tablets against strong competitors like Apple’s iPad?
