Microsoft has opened its Office Web apps on SkyDrive to everyone today. With that move, Microsoft is making its debut on the online document management space. Office Web apps provides the capabilities to store, edit and share documents online. Documents will be stored online on SkyDrive which provides 25 GB free storage space. There are two versions of Office Web apps: 1. Office Web apps for home and school. 2. Office Web apps for Organizations. Currently, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote are the applications on the Office Web suite. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer 7 or later for Windows, Safari 4 or later for Mac, and Firefox 3.5 or later for Windows Mac or Linux. No support for Google’s Chrome.

Access the Office Web apps online here. Though there is no application available for iPhone or Android based phones, Microsoft is claiming that the Office web apps is accessible from the in-built browsers. I have tried accessing it on my Nexus One and it crashes quite frequently with Office Web apps. Almost all the basic document related features are available on Office Web apps. But, one would definitely miss the scripting feature of the Google docs spreadsheet which enables customization.
